What you get
The same picture, without the hidden tags. File size may drop a little. Orientation that was stored only as a tag can look different in some viewers. If a photo appears sideways, rotate it in an editor after.
What this does not do
- It does not blur faces or license plates
- It does not resize or compress for the web
- It does not prove a file is “anonymous” if the pixels themselves show a place
Operation details
What happens: ExifTool copies the image bytes to a new file with every metadata tag removed (-all=). Pixels are not re-encoded unless the format requires it.
Engine: ExifTool 13.55.

Output: Same format as selected — .jpg, .png, or .webp — with EXIF, GPS, IPTC, and comments stripped.
Lossy? No pixel changes; only metadata removal.
Common failures: Format mismatch (calling a PNG a JPEG), corrupt files, or oversize uploads. Orientation stored only in EXIF may appear rotated in some viewers after stripping.
