Videos and photos hide more than what you see. A PNG can carry EXIF, GPS coordinates, and other tags — and it is often much bigger than it needs to be. This page converts a PNG to AVIF and removes the hidden metadata at the same time, so you can share a smaller, cleaner file.
How to convert and strip

What you get
A single .avif file with the same picture:
- Same width, height, and colors

This tool does not blur faces, resize images, or prove that pixels are private. It only converts the format and removes the metadata.
Operation details
What happens: ExifTool strips all metadata from the PNG, then libavif encodes the pixels into AVIF.
Engines: ExifTool 13.55 (metadata removal) + avifenc (AVIF encode).
Inputs: PNG up to 50 MB.
Output: One .avif file with the same dimensions and colors, no EXIF/GPS/comments, usually smaller than the PNG.
Lossy? AVIF encoding is lossy; metadata removal is lossless.
Common failures: Non-PNG input, corrupt PNG, or AVIF-incompatible dimensions.
