What is an embedded IGES thumbnail?

Many CAD tools store a small raster preview image inside an IGES file so file browsers can show it. This page finds that image and hands it to you as a PNG.

Which image formats are supported?

Thumbnails stored as PNG, JPEG, GIF, or BMP are recognized. PNG stays byte-for-byte identical; the others are converted to PNG.

It extracts the preview image, not the 3D model. Files without an embedded thumbnail are rejected with a clear error.
