Which FBX files work?

Binary FBX 7.x files (the common export format) and ASCII ("text") FBX files up to 40 MB, as long as they contain an embedded thumbnail preview.

What if my FBX file has no thumbnail?

The tool reports an error. Files exported without an embedded preview image do not contain anything to extract.

What image format do I get?

A PNG. PNG thumbnails are passed through directly, and JPEG or BMP thumbnails are converted to PNG.

Do I get the 3D model back?

No. You get a flat PNG picture of the embedded thumbnail, not the model. Use it when you need a quick preview image to share.

Get an FBX thumbnail online without a 3D viewer
