DAE (COLLADA) is a common XML-based format for describing 3D models and scenes. Some models include a small preview or thumbnail image embedded right inside the file.

What if my DAE has no embedded image?

Then there is nothing to extract, so the tool stops with a clear error instead of returning a fake or blank image. Only files that actually contain an embedded picture can be converted.

What image formats can be extracted?

PNG images are copied out exactly as they are stored. If the embedded image is another format, such as JPEG or BMP, it is decoded and re-saved as a PNG so you always get a compatible file.

Pull the thumbnail out of a DAE 3D model

Some COLLADA (.dae) 3D model files carry a preview image inside them. This tool finds that embedded image and pulls it out as a PNG you can use anywhere.

What you get

A PNG copy of the preview image that was stored inside the model file. If the model embedded a PNG, you get the exact same pixels. Otherwise the embedded image is converted so it's always a clean PNG.
